Have you ever felt "stuck in the middle"? It can be a transition, an evolution, or in my case being in the middle of two people at the time I painted this piece and not knowing what to do. I felt the saguaro represented my strong feelings and firm stance in not taking sides. The saguaro in the painting is so firm in being in the middle that its length extends off the canvas both top and bottom. Strong shapes of color express the light and dark of each person's personalities while the saguaro stands firmly between and somewhat removed from each side. It creates a striking image of being "In Between".
